CIQS Continues with Stakeholder Engagement

Alberta introduced Bill 62 in the legislative on April 8, 2021.

The Canadian Institute of Quantity Surveyors (CIQS) is pleased to have participated in the process of stakeholder engagement activated by the Province of Alberta as part of the initiative to cut red tape.

This participation has required CIQS to provide input into proposed amendments relating to prompt payment, including P3 projects, adjudication and application of prompt payment to consultants.

As part of an extensive consultation process, CIQS also provided feedback on nominating authorities, adjudication, holdbacks, prompt payment and other items such as right of information and Public Private Partnerships.

In response to these most recent developments, Sheila Lennon, Chief Executive Officer of CIQS said:

“We are pleased to have been involved in the evolution of this initiative – Alberta has encouraged stakeholder engagement and we are pleased to have participated throughout with the perspective of a professional organization with a deep routed history of professionals working within the construction pyramid in Alberta”

CIQS remains available to engage further with the Province of Alberta as regulations are drafted and legislation moves into implementation and Arif Ghaffur, Editor of the Construction Economist and Vice Chair of CIQS said:

“As set out in the attached Fact Sheet, Alberta continues to actively engage stakeholders and adopt groundbreaking approaches such as the concept of multiple adjudication authorities – these are significant changes that will be further defined in the regulations accompanying the new Act”.
