
The Nova Scotia Association of Quantity Surveyors (NSAQS) was founded in May of 1979. Thirty-six persons met to incorporate the Association and elected Leslie White its first president. This responded to the requirement that quantity surveying in Canada be organized using the federal/provincial system, with the Canadian Institute of Quantity Surveyors (CIQS) representing national concerns, and provincial associations providing local organization and administrative activities.
Currently, the NSAQS has approximately 100 members residing in Nova Scotia, New Brunswick and Prince Edward Island. The latter two provinces do not yet have provincial associations of their own. New Brunswick is represented on the NSAQS Executive by an NB chapter coordinator.
The NSAQS is affiliated with the CIQS and can send two representatives to the CIQS Council. The CIQS educational requirements, examinations, and professional standards apply to the NSAQS. Consequently, membership is fully transferrable between different provincial associations. Applications for membership from outside of Canada should be sent directly to the CIQS.
