CIQS YQS Program – Shaping Tomorrow’s Leaders Today

Back in 2018 we launched the David Lai YQS Congress Bursary program as a way to encourage CIQS members under 40 to attend our Congress and Annual General Meeting. The program funds one young quantity surveyor (YQS) from each chapter and both the 2018 and 2019 programs were very well received.

Daniel Josiah “Attending the CIQS 2019 Congress in Quebec City was a positive sharing and learning experience. I was fortunate to learn new technical aspects as I continue my journey as a professional quantity surveyor”

The next step was to establish a YQS Committee. The primary focus of this committee is to formulate and execute an action plan that provides networking opportunities for CIQS members and stakeholders under the age of 40 who are dedicated to bettering the field of quantity surveying while becoming leaders in their respective communities. The committee is tasked with the following strategic objectives:

  • Professional and leadership development,
  • Sustainability of the profession,
  • Networking and knowledge sharing,
  • Providing resources and support,
  • Providing opportunities for young professionals, and
  • Community involvement

The full YQS program was formally launched at the Year in Review presentations earlier this summer and we are proud of the achievements to date.

The CIQS HUB[1]

www.qscareer.org

The CIQS HUB is a newly launched website, owned and managed by CIQS, which includes a section specifically for our YQS program, as well as information of interest to students of our outreach program and a section dedicated to our volunteer ambassadors. It also includes links to our educational video series, our podcast, “Knowledge Counts”, and a listing of upcoming events of interest to our students and YQS members. Speaking of events…

YQS Leadership Webinar Series

CIQS is proud to announce a four-piece webinar series that will guide participants through the fundamentals of leadership, led by Craig Woodall from Byng Leadership Inc. The series has been designed with a focus on tomorrow’s leaders and as such, we are pleased to offer this series to our YQS members at no cost. Non-YQS members and stakeholders are welcome to join at the low cost of $70 for the entire series.

This series offers a great opportunity for businesses to reach professional quantity surveyors under 40, and as such, we are pleased to present sponsorship opportunities for a single webinar at $250 or for the entire series at the discounted rate of $895.

Contact Sharon Lui at events@ciqs.org for sponsorship and registration details.

Bursary Benefactor Program

We have also designed a campaign to help us sustain and grow the David Lai YQS Bursary Program to ensure we continue sending qualified young quantity surveyors to Congress (all expenses paid) for many years to come. Benefactors can choose to sponsor one YQS for one year at $3,000 or pledge to support the program over multiple years as follows:

  • 2 years @ $6,000 (payable at $3,000 per year),
  • 3 years @ $8,000 (payable at $2,666 per year), or
  • 5 years @ $11,000 (payable at $2,200 per year)

For details, or to make a pledge, contact Alexandra Parliament at marketing@ciqs.org.

Leadership Development Program

We are in the process of creating a Leadership Development Program where we will match participating YQS members with volunteers who will share their experiences and expertise in order to help the YQS member grow as a leader and expert in their field, grooming them as the industry trailblazers of tomorrow.

The YQS Program falls in line with the Community Engagement Initiative objective of the 2019-2022 Strategic Plan that was launched at the 2019 Congress in Quebec City.
