Brookfield Place Site Tour — for CIQS & RICS Members
Come join us for an exclusive tour of the Brookfield Place construction site hosted by EllisDon.
After the site tour, the EllisDon M&E Coordinator and LEED Coordinator will be on hand to discuss compliance, commissioning challenges and more with participants, and participate in a Q and A session.
- Brookfield Place will be the tallest building in Western Canada, towering 56 storeys and 247 meters tall
- Class A office building
- This project is targeting LEED® Gold Core and Shell Certification
When complete, Brookfield Place will be the tallest Class A office building in Alberta. This 56-storey commercial property will have six levels of underground parking, including a loading and unloading facility. The property will also include a three-storey pavilion enclosed by a glass and metal frame. The main lobby will contain restaurant and retail space. Brookfield Place is targeting LEED® Gold Core and Shell Certification through five initiatives: water efficiency through the use of water conserving plumbing fixtures, reusing roof storm water for site irrigation, high efficiency heating and energy reclaim through enthalpy wheels, high performance glazing and building envelope and increased ozone protection by eliminating CFC refrigerants.
Site logistics provide a challenge, as this project is located in downtown Calgary with the Light Rail Transit tracks on the south side and a six level above grade parkade on the west side. This gives the construction team limited access. Other challenges include 15 meters of rock excavation and the Calgary winds, which can reach over a 100 km/h in only a few hours. These winds require all materials to be securely tied down, and the installation of a high wind early warning system to ensure the public's safety.
